Deep Oscillation Reduces Pain, Acne and Enhances Spinal Movement & Function

Long standing associate and advocate of Deep Oscillation, Chris Boynes, Consultant Chartered Sports and Spinal Physiotherapist was very impressed at the results achieved with his client, so much so, Derek his client agreed to be zoom interviewed by Chris to discuss it.

Initial presentation

  • Client massively stiff, spinally head to pelvis
  • Previous bi-lateral total hip replacements in past – hence stiff hips
  • Lacked extension in spine and hips
  • Not doing much specific exercise

Initial Treatment Protocol

  • Manual therapy
  • TCM acupuncture
  • IMS dry needling
  • Connective tissue release
  • Specific exercise rehabilitation
  • Results

After the first four treatments, general movement was very much improved

Adding Deep Oscillation Electrostatic Therapy to the protocol

On 6th April 2017, Deep Oscillation Electrostatic Therapy was introduced to the treatment protocol ,with great immediate success; less stiffness and ease of pain.

Because of the success of Deep Oscillation, regular acupuncture points for shoulder/neck were stopped.  On two occasions, IMS Dry Needling has been used for connective tissue release.

Short diary of improvements noted:

18th May 2017: First noticed the reduction in presentation of acne on skin, less redness, less blotchy

6th September 2017: Further improvements in movement and skin presentation

22nd September 2017: Further decreased of acne, no spots, skin smoother

3rd April 2018: Skin much smoother

5th Jan 2019: Skin so much better, moving easier than for many years

Continuing Treatment Protocol

(Assessed and reassessed in every session)

Regularity:  Approximately every 5 weeks

Duration: 45-50 minutes

  • Deep Oscillation for 40 mins from occiput to pelvis with gloves – frequencies ranging from 200Hz to 32Hz to aid pain relief and encourage more movement of fluids etc.
  • Different frequencies applied depending on how client feels when he comes into the clinic.
  • Working on neck and armpit/posterior shoulder areas, and considering the vascular system, this has made a difference. Some minutes are on his head where the lymph pool is and he and other patients always feel this is beneficial. Massaging his right shoulder, he lost the pain and stiffness in his right thumb which could be the vascular affect of Deep Oscillation
  • Joint mobilisations spinally to complete treatment
  • Review of specific exercise rehabilitation
  • Home exercise work given
