Venous Ulcer Regeneration with DEEP OSCILLATION®
PhysioPod Foreword: In this article Bitsu Physiotherapy look at the power of extremely gentle, yet effective Deep Oscillation reaching all tissue layers, offering a non-invasive, non-traumatic path to dramatically speeding up venous ulcer healing.

Background
A male patient, 76 years old, had ulcers appear in late 2019 due to chronic venous insufficiency, as the patient had osteomyelitis in the femur at age 14, which led to osteosynthetic fixation in the hip and pins in the knee, leaving it ankylosed. He is diabetic and has controlled hypertension.
Treatment
The areas where the ulcers are were covered with Cureband sterile non-adhesive gauze 10 cm x 10 cm and the therapy only applied via the glove to the inner part of the leg, where the skin is healthy, the back and the popliteal area, around the ulcers and on the healthy skin areas.
Four treatment sessions of deep oscillation have been used, one per week:
Deep Oscillation was applied by the gloved hand method
In contrast to externally applied, mechanical forms of therapy, (e.g. vibration), the therapy effect of DEEP OSCILLATION® takes place in the tissue itself and works through the entire depth of the tissue layers (skin, connective tissue, subcutaneous fat, muscles, blood and lymph vessels)
DEEP OSCILLATION® helps in speeding up and improving wound healing processes. Through the oedema-reducing and anti inflammatory effect, the local metabolic elimination and alimentation is improved in all tissue layers, whereby tissue regeneration and wound closure are encouraged on many levels. This is documented by the significant improvement in planimetric and biochemical parameters of the wound healing.
Treatment Protocol
- Preprogrammed treatment - Venous Circulatory Disorder x 2 (15 minute programme duration)
- Preprogrammed treatment - Regeneration x 2 (15 minute programme duration)
Prior to the above, only healing treatments using hydrocortisone had been performed twice a week.
Results
Conclusion
The patient has shown significant improvement after just a few sessions of deep oscillation, not only enhancing the healing of the ulcers but also improving circulation and significantly reducing pain, to the point of reducing tramadol consumption.
More on DEEP OSCILLATION®
Deep oscillation (DEEP OSCILLATION®) is a unique, patented therapy method. By utilising electrostatic attraction and friction, pulses induce pleasant vibrations in the treated tissue, which has a deep biological effect. Unlike other forms of therapy, these vibrations are extremely gentle and have a deep impact on all tissue components (skin, conductive tissue, subcutaneous fat, muscles, blood, and lymphatic vessels). The following physiological effects of DEEP OSCILLATION® therapy have been clinically documented:
-
Pain reduction
-
Anti-inflammatory effect
-
Oedema resorption
-
Promoting wound healing
-
Antifibrotic effect
-
Trophic improvement
-
Reduction of skin redness
-
detoxification
-
Improvements in tissue quality
For therapy, the patient holds a titanium contact element loosely between their fingers. The pleasant therapeutic effect of deep oscillation is created under the therapist's gloves or the hand applicator, which is moved in a circular motion over the tissue. DEEP OSCILLATION®, with its non-invasive, non-traumatic, and highly effective approach, is particularly suitable for the following applications:
Pre- and postoperative therapy
With DEEP OSCILLATION®, hematomas, swelling, and edema can be eliminated pre- and postoperatively much faster than with conventional therapies. Its extremely early application inhibits local inflammatory processes and promotes wound healing, while pain is sustainably reduced. The quality of scarring improves. DEEP OSCILLATION® is therefore widely used routinely as an adjuvant postoperative therapy, for example, in oncology, neurology, and traumatology. Due to its extremely gentle therapeutic effect, DEEP OSCILLATION® is used as a first-line therapy after mastectomies, osteosynthesis, endoprostheses, and cesarean sections, among other procedures.
Lymphoedema
The application of DEEP OSCILLATION® leads to volume reduction in primary and secondary lymphoedema. The therapy is also increasingly and successfully used in lipedema. DEEP OSCILLATION® has a fibrosis-prophylactic and antifibrotic effect: incipient fibrosis can be treated effectively, in particular. Various parameters related to skin quality are significantly improved.
Mechanical trauma and overload injuries
In cases of trauma and overuse injuries, DEEP OSCILLATION® has an immediate edema-reducing and pain-reducing effect, subsequently promoting pain-free self-mobilization and thus enabling early active movement. For athletes, this means earlier initiation of active therapy and training, and for "normal" patients, a faster return to activities of daily living.
Secondary wound healing
DEEP OSCILLATION® is increasingly being used for secondary wound healing, unfortunately often only as a last resort. DEEP OSCILLATION® is an effective adjuvant treatment option for both surgically and diabetic wound healing disorders, as well as oedematous secondary wound healing.
Burns
In the case of second-degree burns, DEEP OSCILLATION® results in significantly accelerated and qualitatively improved wound healing.
Chronic pain conditions
In conditions accompanied by chronic pain, such as fibromyalgia syndrome or Sudeck's disease, DEEP OSCILLATION® has a sustained effect on reducing pain intensity and quality, often leading to a reduction in medication intake. The treatment significantly promotes movement, counteracts muscle stiffness and impairments of daily activities, and has a consequent positive effect on symptoms of exhaustion, anxiety, and depression.
Neurorehabilitation
In stroke rehabilitation, DEEP OSCILLATION® is used to improve the trophic balance of hemiplegia and reduce spasms in affected areas, as well as for lymphatic drainage, for example, to relieve congestion in the head area. In children with cerebral palsy and tetraplegia, the therapy is also used very successfully to reduce spasms and treat intestinal constipation.
