Dorset Cancer Care Honours Fundraisers

"I became an Ambassador for Dorset Cancer Care Foundation in 2018 after hearing about the amazing work and support offered to people within Dorset following cancer-related-diagnoses and treatments.

Many people are met with financial hardships, loss of income, mortgage arrears, the lack of transport or the means to pay for it to travel to treatment centres, the sudden need for childcare, shopping etc - to name a few of the challenges into which patients, and their families may be faced.

All applications to the Charity are thoroughly assessed by the Trustees and where appropriate an award is made.

Over each year the Charity has a very full calendar organising all manner of fund raising events, Black Tie evenings, Bowling, Coffee mornings, Fun Runs.  Often challenges or fund-raising ideas are set by patients or their families who have received awards and want to give back or become involved.  The Charity now has its own choir and has had many invites to perform in various places.

On the 16th of June Dorset Cancer Care Foundation hosted a fabulous Celebration Evening for all those who had financially supported the Charity over the year, some amazing challenges had been met and large sums of money donated.

I was recognised for the £2,235.57 I had raised by organising a Winter Tea in January 2025, Christmas Wreath Making in December 2025 and a Summer Celebration Tea in May 2026.

Dorset Cancer Care Foundation assists at the lowest moments for anyone after a cancer diagnosis where the need is justified."

The DCCF provides financial assistance to Dorset residents and their families who are experiencing financial hardship due to cancer.

The Dorset Cancer Care Foundation was registered as a charity in 2013 by three nurses, after going through cancer themselves and seeing first-hand how many people struggle financially during their cancer journey.

They are a non-profit-making organisation and all of their net proceeds are used to finance awards.
