On International Lymphoedema Awareness Day March 6th 2015 LAW2015 Lyndsey share her thoughts on using the PhysioPod for self management of Primary Lymphoedema and following Liposuction
Lindsay first experienced DEEP OSCILLATION therapy via the HIVAMAT200 in 2008 from her MLD Therapist and immediately felt the benefit in breaking up fibrotic tissue and moving trapped oedema. Four years later she purchased the DEEP OSCILLATION Personal Sports and thanks PhysioPod's unique service in providing a bespoke card for her leg care. Post liposuction she has found the therapy invaluable for her new thinner leg.
DEEP OSCILLATION® is non-invasive and non-traumatic. "I am 29 years old and was diagnosed with primary lymphoedema in my left leg at the age of 18.
I wear compression stockings everyday and I have regular MLD plus an annual 3 week treatment of intense MLD massage with multi layer bandaging. I started having treatment from one of my therapists with the Deep Oscillation Hivamat 200 about 7 years ago. Instantly I could feel the results after a session and realized how great it was for breaking up the tissues in my leg. It tripled the effect of a normal hand massage and I loved having a treatment with the Hivamat. My leg felt instantly soft after a session and I could really feel the benefits.
In 2012 I purchased my own personal Deep Oscillation PhysioPod personal unit so I could work on my leg freely. I wanted to work on the problematic areas of my leg, around the knee, calf and ankle. It was just great having the ability to personally massage my leg. When the tissues in my leg become hard I am instantly able to work on them to get my leg back soft so the trapped oedema can work its way out. Combining my PhysioPod with self-bandaging I am able to give myself personal sessions at home with terrific results keeping me in control of my leg.
A month ago I underwent liposuction for lymphedema on my leg and using my personal PhysioPod post operation has just been brilliant. Working on my new thinner leg everyday with the PhysioPod helps reduce the postoperative oedema significantly. In particular it has been extremely effective on the top of my thigh where my compression bandage can’t reach. I found this area gets very hard and I am able to work on this with my PhysioPod and straight away it becomes soft and more comfortable after a 30 minute session. The surgery has been life changing already with the reduction of my leg and having the help of the PhysioPod I am able to get the leg I want. I know that the PhysioPod is going to be an invaluable treatment for my leg for many years to come. It’s just great being able to personally help my leg when I can.
Thank you to the team at PhysioPod as their unique service in getting my machine on a personal program for my leg is really invaluable. I simple could not fault this machine to helping me have a happier leg."

What is Lymphoedema? Taken with thanks from the BLS website which hosts a wealth of information on the condition.
Lymphoedema is the term used to describe swelling that can occur anywhere in the body, but most commonly affects the limbs. It is important to note, that swelling can occur for different reasons, and it is important that a diagnosis about the underlying cause of swelling is made by a qualified health care professional.
Lymphoedema can be classified as Primary or Secondary, depending on the cause.
Primary Lymphoedema may be present at birth, develop at puberty or in mid-life, and relates to abnormal functioning of the lymphatic system.
Secondary lymphoedema may occur following treatment for cancer, surgery, radiation therapy, recurrent infections or trauma.
If lymphoedema is left untreated, there is a risk that it may worsen over time.
Lymphoedema is not curable, but there are ways to control and manage symptoms that can also help to improve quality of life.
