DEEP OSCILLATION®

How DEEP OSCILLATION® Works

Unlike conventional vibratory massages or physical modalities that apply heavy, sometimes painful external mechanical compression, kneading, or thermal energy, Deep Oscillation operates as a non-thermal, low-intensity biophysical therapy.

The Johnsen-Rahbek Effect: Operating on safe electrostatic principles, the therapy utilises a pulsed electrostatic field to generate intermittent attraction and release phenomena within the tissue layers.

Endogenous Microdeformations: Rhythmic electrostatic pulses generate very small, highly localised microscopic changes in tissue shape and tension created entirely within the tissue's own internal microenvironment.

Gentle Deep-Tissue Permeation: Because these microdeformations are induced internally, the therapy functions with minimal mechanical load and requires no significant downward physical pressure. Rhythmic electrostatic waves comfortably permeate deep through multiple tissue planes—including the skin, connective tissue, subcutaneous fat, muscles, and lymphatic structures—with effects reported at depths of up to approximately 8 cm under specific conditions.

This pressure-free mechanism offers an excellent safety profile, providing exceptional clinical tolerability even on highly sensitive, inflamed, or acutely injured tissues

By seamlessly integrating Deep Oscillation with sports massage, myofascial cupping, and active rehabilitation, Megan provides a gentle, biology-first approach to musculoskeletal recovery. This non-invasive therapy uses a pulsed electrostatic field to generate gentle, deep-acting tissue oscillations without requiring painful downward physical pressure.

Megan's specialised clinical pathways include:

Acute Sports Injuries (Comfort & Decongestion)

Best for: Muscle trauma, ligament sprains (ankle/knee), impact bruising, and acute joint swelling.

How it helps: Utilising gentle, low-load electrostatic waves to comfortably soothe overstimulated pain receptors, this pathway supports microcirculation and comfortably accelerates the reabsorption of swelling and bruising.

Chronic & Overuse Conditions (Softening & Tissue Pliability)

Best for: Achilles problems, tendon overstrains, tennis/golfer’s elbow, chronic back pain, and joint stiffness.

How it helps: Gently targets deep-seated stiffness within the connective tissues and muscle planes. This interaction supports tissue softening, improves tissue pliability, and facilitates joint mobility.

Post-Exercise Recovery (Metabolic Clearance & Muscle Fatigue)

Best for: Severe muscle soreness (DOMS), generalised tightness, and fatigue following intensive athletic training.

How it helps: Acts as a biophysical catalyst within the tissue layers to promote metabolic clearance, easing tightness and reducing recovery times so you can maintain peak physical fitness.

Post-Operative Rehabilitation (Day One Gentle Aftercare)

Best for: Troublesome swelling and restricted mobility following orthopaedic surgeries, such as ACL reconstructions or hip and knee replacements.

How it helps: Because this therapy requires minimal pressure, it can be introduced with surgeon approval in the early post-op stage to comfortably manage discomfort, accelerate bruising clearance, and support optimal scar pliability and softness.

Megan Hickton BSc (Hons)

Founder of Sports Therapy by Meg

"I believe that therapeutic rehabilitation should never be a one-size-fits-all checklist. True recovery begins by looking past the injury to understand the living tissue itself, adapting every session to what your body needs today."

My name is Megan Hickton, and I am a qualified, fully insured, and DBS-checked Sports Therapist based in Wingerworth, Chesterfield. My journey into sports rehabilitation was driven by a deep fascination with human biomechanics and a personal passion for helping people reclaim their physical freedom, restore pain-free movement, and perform at their absolute best.

I recently graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation from the University of Derby. My academic dedication has also paved the way for an exciting milestone in my career: returning to the University of Derby as a Teaching Assistant, where I have the absolute privilege of supporting and mentoring the next generation of sports therapy students on the very course I just graduated from.

Through my clinical training and professional development, I have established a highly specialised, multidisciplinary approach to musculoskeletal health. My clinical qualifications include:

  • BSc (Honours) in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation (First Class)
  • Diploma in Myofascial Cupping Therapy
  • Level 3 Sports Massage

My Clinical Philosophy: A Biology-First Approach

In my practice, Sports Therapy by Meg, I combine traditional manual therapies, cupping, and active rehabilitation with advanced, non-invasive biophysical care—specifically Deep Oscillation Therapy (DEEP OSCILLATION®).

I first discovered Deep Oscillation after undergoing treatment myself and experiencing its remarkable, rapid results on pain and swelling. Witnessing first-hand how safely and comfortably it targets deep-seated tissue layers without requiring painful downward pressure inspired me to invest in this cutting-edge technology for my own patients.

Whether you are recovering from an acute sports injury, managing chronic back and joint stiffness, rehabilitating from orthopaedic surgery, or looking to accelerate your athletic post-exercise recovery, my goal is to guide you back to full function using the safest, most scientifically robust clinical reasoning possible. I look forward to welcoming you to my clinic and supporting you on your rehabilitation journey!

How did you hear about DEEP OSCILLATION®? What prompted you to buy? Had treatment ourselves and saw impressive results. Wanted to be able to offer this to others.

How do you find dealing with PhysioPod® UK Limited? So helpful and supportive.
