Professional Profile

Joana Pedroso is a highly skilled, certified scar therapist and holistic bodywork practitioner specialising in the treatment of scar tissue, adhesions, and fibrosis following surgery, trauma, and burns. Her clinical approach uniquely combines advanced manual techniques, innovative biophysical therapies and a deep, whole-body understanding of movement to reduce physical discomfort, restore mobility, and support long-term physical recovery.
From Conservation Science to Whole-Body Healing
Before dedicating her career to physical rehabilitation, Joana worked as a Conservation Scientist, utilising advanced analytical techniques to research historical paintings. While she loved the rigorous, analytical nature of her scientific career, she always maintained a profound interest in alternative and holistic therapies.
Her career path shifted permanently following a personal health breakthrough. Suffering from long-standing lower back pain, restricted hamstring flexibility, and menstrual pain, Joana decided to try a Bowen Therapy session. She was completely blown away when she experienced substantial, life-changing relief by the very next day. Inspired by the fast-acting, restorative power of the gentle touch, she made the decision to leave conservation science and master this incredible clinical technique herself, qualifying as a Bowen Therapist in 2014.
Advanced Modalities and Movement
To provide her clients with truly comprehensive, tailored care, Joana spent years expanding her therapeutic toolkit with advanced, gentle-touch modalities. In her sessions, she observed many of her clients struggling with chronic muscular pain, postural imbalances, and pulling sensations that directly stemmed from fibrous scar tissue. Realising that a scar can negatively impact movement and function far beyond the original site of injury, she committed herself to specialist training in clinical scar rehabilitation.
Specialist Scar and Oncology Recovery
Joana completed advanced, one-to-one training under Emma Holly and Claire Stone, qualifying as a certified Scar Therapy Practitioner and an Oncology Scar Specialist using the renowned Restore Therapy method. Today, she is a key clinician at the prestigious Restore Therapy Clinic on Harley Street, London.
Joana has extensive, compassionate experience in supporting clients recovering from complex medical procedures, such as breast cancer lumpectomies, mastectomies, and reconstructions. She excels at helping clients overcome challenges like localised tightness, sensitivity, numbness, and axillary cording. Joana combines advanced manual scar techniques with state-of-the-art clinical devices, including LymphaTouch® and DEEP OSCILLATION® (which she integrated into her practice following a recommendation from Emma Holly), to safely target both superficial and deep tissue layers to ease fibrosis, swelling, and joint pain.
Clinical Contributions and Community Advocacy
Believing deeply that specialist rehabilitative care should be supportive, accessible, and compassionate, Joana actively contributes to the wider medical recovery community. She has volunteered her specialist skills at Dan’s Fund for Burns, working directly with survivors recovering from both acute and long-standing burn trauma. She also provides dedicated, specialist oncology scar therapy to breast cancer patients at the Future Dreams House charity in London and has shared her expertise as a Teaching Assistant on the Restore Oncology Scar Specialist course, helping other therapists master these vital clinical skills.
With 12 years of hands-on experience, Joana’s practice is built on a foundation of compassionate, clinical excellence. By blending her scientific, analytical roots with a deep respect for the body’s natural biology, she helps her clients transition from pain and structural restriction back to a life of fluid, comfortable movement.
