A Case Report from Dr. Rosaeva Tavárez, Physiotherapist from FisioMed Punta Cana
Did you know that when we modernise our services, we give our patients a wider range of options that optimise their recovery?
I am Dr. Rosaeva Tavárez, a Physiotherapist with a master's degree in aesthetic medicine, I belong to the team of FisioMed, a home medical solutions service in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
In September of this year 2024, I visited a 76-year-r old female, diabetic and hypertensive, who was referred after a stroke, which caused her to have a right hemiparesis with ipsilateral facial paralysis, language impairment and the inability to be independent because she could not remember everything.
After evaluation, we started physical and cognitive therapy, accompanied by occupational and speech therapy. In terms of physiotherapy, I would like to share with you that for two months we have used a combination of physical means to achieve a recovery result of 80%, achieving her autonomy and independence.
In the treatment of facial paralysis, we use the DEEP OSCILLATION in Facial Lifting modality, achieving an 80% reduction in Bell's Palsy, recovering gesticulations, thus having ophthalmic occlusion of eyelids, avoiding greater dehydration of the eyeball, also better facial muscle movement that allows better verbal communication and to be able to feed better by having optimal chewing and swallowing. We combine this modality with the use of continuous ultrasound and facial massotherapy, as well as mirror gesticulations.
On her upper and lower limbs, we alternate the use of DEEP OSCILATION in Paresis mode, with pulsed Tens to work on their response, accompanied by stretching and strengthening exercises.
So, after two months of treatment, her motor skills have improved tremendously, indirectly involving herself in the better outcome of the other therapies worked on by psychology.
