Discover the Essential Guide to Deep Oscillation Therapy (DOT).

We are excited to share that a chapter dedicated to Deep Oscillation Therapy (DOT) is included in the newly published Applied Lymphology. Authored by Dr Jens Reinhold, this chapter provides a detailed examination of this unique modality.

DOT is an electromechanical therapy method that works through targeted resonance vibrations. It distinguishes itself from externally applied mechanical therapies (such as ultrasound, shockwave and vibration therapies) because the vibration is generated directly within the tissue layers via pulsed electrostatic attraction. This process leads to a "penetrating vibration and pumping effect deep into the tissue", which significantly influences lymph flow.

What will you learn in this essential publication?

The chapter provides crucial insights regarding DOT’s mechanisms and proven effects, supported by randomised controlled trials (RCTs).

  • Enhanced Lymphatic Drainage: DOT significantly improves the effects of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) as part of Complex Physical Decongestive Therapy (CPDT).

  • Decongestion and Anti-Fibrosis: Learn how DOT achieves de-oedematisation and an anti-fibrotic effect, even on fibrotically altered tissue. This is achieved through mechanical impulses that have a loosening effect on hardened oedemas and a shaping effect on collagen fibre structures, reinforcing interstitial drainage.

  • Pain Reduction and Movement: DOT has demonstrated a significant pain-reducing effect and promotes movement, making it suitable for early use in postoperative care

  • The chapter explains which different frequency ranges (5–250 Hz) are used during treatment, and situations where the treatment should not be used.

  • Self-Management: Discover the feasibility of self-therapy using specialised hand applicators, particularly those noted for managing pain symptoms in lipoedema patients and increasing treatment frequency.

This expert chapter is vital for anyone interested in managing lymphoedema or lipoedema.
