After an arduous 5-hour walk up and down Ingleborough Mountain my calves were feeling tight.

As a regular gym member I thought this would ease with a few sessions on the cross trainer and some powerplate massage. However, they continued to feel tight two weeks later. One morning, feeling mentally perky (but still with stiff legs!) I decided to do an hours’ cardio. Bike for twenty, Cross Trainer for twenty and Interval Run on the treadmill, followed by some floor ladder work. I had got up to 16kpm sprinting and felt mighty pleased with myself! Then came the ladder and boy did it go down hill from there! Stepping in and out and watching my heart rate climb I felt super but then TWANG, ouch, sharp pain in my right calf and a feeling, quickly followed by reality, that I had done something nasty and was unable to put my foot flat on the floor without immense pain. Feeling silly, I picked up the ladder and hobbled with a crab like posture out of the gym and back to the changing rooms!

Now luckily for me, my sister Julie, is the Director of PhysioPod UK Limited and she had been training that morning too. After inspection she said it was, as I knew, a pulled calf muscle and she could feel the offending spot! She had the Deep Oscillation Personal Sports Unit in her car. She was actually quite pleased I had a real fresh injury that I could treat immediately! Majority of her cases are on injuries that have occurred days/weeks prior, not a juicy fresh one like mine!

I took the unit to work and did a twenty-minute treatment straight away on the muscle fibre rupture option, it was very easy to use, infact I did it at my desk whilst sipping my morning coffee! At lunchtime, I did another twenty-minute treatment and in the evening I did another. Next morning, although I knew it was there I was walking without a limp. The same pattern followed for the next two days, morning, lunch and night.

By the Friday of that week I was walking normally, putting full weight on leg and felt comfortable enough to stroll out to the local in flat shoes without pain. I was and am bowled over by this treatment. An injury that normally can take two weeks and longer to sort was fine in three days. I still have the unit and am doing one a day to help the healing but don’t now feel as though I really need to use it; although it is very pleasant sitting on the settee, watching tele and having a nice little massage on my leg!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone, who like me, does not like being out of activity for any length of time or who needs to be back on a track or field to prevent the moaning of their coach/manager!
